Intra-company Transferee

This status is applicable to employees of foreign companies transferred to its Japanese subsidiary, affiliate company, or its branch. Sometimes it’s convenient if employees can’t apply for status of “Engineer/ Specialist in Humanities/International Services” because they don’t have university degree or experience.

Requirement of Intra-company Transferee

• Having worked for the parent company for more than 1 year
• Engage in duties same as that of  status of “Engineer/ Specialist in Humanities/International Services”
• Assigned to Japanese subsidiary, affiliate company, or branch for fixed period of time
• Salary not cheaper than that of Japanese employees

Work experience at parent company

One year is the minimum term prior to the transfer. So it’s not possible to get this status with short term employment history. But if they have worked for one year, university degree is not required. It is one of the benefit to get this status.

Assigned to Japanese subsidiary, affiliate company, or branch

One of major criteria of subsidiary is having more than 50% voting right. If a foreign company has this percentage, there is no problem about the capacity of sponsorship of visa application.

Depending on other factors about relationship with Japanese company, from 20% of voting right, it may be possible to use this status. There are some detailed rules about it.

Assigned for fixed period of time

The term of employment after the transfer to Japan must be fixed period of time, such as 1 year or 3 year. There is no requirement about length. But it can’t be unlimited.

Salary

The salary of applicant must not be cheaper than that of Japanese employees of same company. There is no fixed required amount of salary. It’s said that 200,000 JPY is one of criteria.
